Fueled by strong winds, multiple fast-growing wildfires are devastating communities across the Los Angeles region, with at least five fatalities reported. Governor Newsom declared a state of emergency, and President Biden approved a disaster declaration to provide resources. Various organizations like California Wildfire Relief Fund, Wildfire Recovery Fund, California Fire Foundation, Pasadena Humane Society, Ventura County Wildfire Relief & Recovery, LA Regional Food Bank, Red Cross-Wildfire Relief, and Salvation Army are accepting donations to support wildfire victims and relief efforts.
The Eaton Fire has spread over 10,000 acres in the Altadena-Pasadena area, while the Palisades Fire has burned nearly 16,000 acres between Santa Monica and Malibu. More wildfires, including the Hurst Fire, Lidia Fire, and Woodley Fire, are also raging with 0% containment as of Wednesday afternoon. The death toll is expected to rise, with Sheriff Robert Luna confirming the current number of five fatalities.
The California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund aims to help marginalized communities affected by the fires, providing basic needs like shelter, food, and cash. The California Fire Foundation supports firefighters and their families, the Pasadena Humane Society assists with pet evacuations, and the LA Regional Food Bank distributes healthy food to victims. The American Red Cross offers shelter, food, water, and emotional support, while the Salvation Army accepts donations of basic needs like protective gear, hygiene products, infant care items, and packaged food. Together, these organizations are working tirelessly to provide assistance to those affected by the wildfires.
