Teacher Arrested in Montrose for Inappropriate Communications with Student
Montrose, Colorado – A teacher from Colorado West Christian School has been arrested after allegations of inappropriate electronic communications with a student surfaced. Police arrested 44-year-old Lisa Thyre following a report from the student’s father. While the identity of the student has not been disclosed, authorities confirmed that they are a teenager.
Thyre was taken into custody on Friday, with police announcing her arrest in a statement released on Monday. She faces multiple charges, including two counts of unlawful electronic sexual communications, as well as conspiracy to tamper with physical evidence and tampering with physical evidence itself. Details surrounding the investigation remain limited, but law enforcement indicates that school administrators are fully cooperating. The Montrose Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about this case to come forward.
Initially, Thyre was booked on a $10,000 bond; however, this was subsequently vacated, and she posted a reduced bond of $250 on Sunday. Court records reveal that a mandatory protective order has been issued against her. Thyre is scheduled to appear in court on January 16 for a formal filing of charges.
Colorado West Christian School, which serves grades K4-12, is located about 300 miles southwest of Denver. This incident occurs amid other serious inquiries involving educators in the state, including an investigation into a Jefferson County School District official who was found dead while being investigated for possession of child sexual abuse material.
As the community grapples with these allegations, school officials and law enforcement are working diligently to ensure student safety and integrity within educational environments.
