Tragic Crash Claims Life of One and Injures Several in Fraser, Colorado
Fraser, CO – A tragic car accident involving a family on holiday in Fraser resulted in one death and several injuries on Thursday morning. The incident occurred on Highway 40 near Mile Post 228, as reported by the Fraser Winter Park Police Department.
Authorities confirmed that the crash happened when a 37-year-old man from Aurora was driving a 2021 Toyota Tundra eastbound on the highway. The vehicle lost traction on the icy road, leading to the Tundra spinning counterclockwise into the westbound lane. A 2024 Peterbilt semi-truck, operated by a 34-year-old Lochbuie resident, was traveling westbound and collided with the passenger side of the Toyota.
A 29-year-old man from Bethesda, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other four occupants of the Tundra, all family members vacationing together, were transported to local medical facilities for treatment. One female passenger is reported to be in critical condition after being transferred to a Denver-area hospital. Fortunately, the semi-truck driver emerged without injury, and the fuel tanker he was hauling remained intact.
The Fraser Winter Park Police Department is forwarding the case to the District Attorney’s office to review potential charges, although initial findings suggest that drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
As the winter weather continues, authorities have issued a warning of difficult travel conditions in the mountainous region through the weekend, with moderate to heavy snowfall anticipated, heightening concern for travelers.
This tragic event underscores the dangers of winter driving and serves as a stark reminder to exercise caution on icy road conditions.
