Press Release: Colorado Weather Update for the Upcoming Week
After a spell of near-record temperatures, Colorado is forecasted to experience a slight dip in warmth this Sunday. Although the day may attempt to reach a record high of 64 degrees, cloudy conditions are expected to moderate the peak temperature. Winds will be breezy, with gusts in the foothills and mountains reaching 20-40 mph.
As a weak weather disturbance moves northward tonight and into Monday, light snow showers are projected across the mountains, potentially accumulating 1-4 inches in some high peaks and passes. Travel conditions in these high elevations should be manageable, with a few slick spots likely on routes like Rabbit Ears Pass by Monday.
Looking ahead, a more significant storm system is anticipated to bring widespread snow to the mountains on Christmas morning. This system may impact travel through Thursday afternoon, particularly favoring southern mountain areas, where accumulations could exceed six inches in some locations. Travelers are advised to reconsider their plans for Christmas Day, as slick conditions are expected in the mountains.
On the Front Range, a mix of rain and snow is possible on Christmas Day, mainly occurring in the evening hours when temperatures are warmer. Areas west and south of Denver might see snowfall late in the day.
Additionally, a third storm system is anticipated to bring light snow to the mountains by Friday; the impact on the lower Front Range remains uncertain, but current assessments indicate a lower overall impact.
As December has shown an unusually dry and warm weather pattern, meteorologists are optimistic about a shift that may bring colder conditions to Colorado in early January.
