Usyk retains heavyweight title with points victory over Fury in Riyadh | Boxing News

Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk defended his undisputed heavyweight belt with a unanimous decision over Tyson Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The judges scored the fight 116-112 in favor of Usyk, who landed 179 of 423 punches compared to Fury’s 144 of 509 punches. The rematch lived up to the hype, with Fury controlling the early rounds but Usyk’s speed and combinations proving to be the difference in the end.

In a post-fight interview, Usyk expressed gratitude for his victory and credited God for his success, refusing to question the judges’ decision. Fury, on the other hand, believed he won the fight and expressed disappointment at being handed his second loss. A virtual AI judge also scored the fight in Usyk’s favor, 118-112.

After the fight, Daniel Dubois interrupted Usyk’s interview and demanded a rematch from their previous bout in 2023, which Usyk had won by knockout. Usyk agreed to the rematch, showing sportsmanship and willingness to face Dubois again. The IBF title was not on the line in this fight, as Usyk had been stripped of the belt for not facing their mandatory challenger.

Despite the controversy surrounding the decision, Usyk celebrated his victory by dropping to his knees at the final bell. The highly anticipated rematch captured the attention of boxing fans worldwide and solidified Usyk’s status as the undefeated heavyweight champion.
