Press Release: Assault on Journalist Investigated as Bias-Motivated Crime

In a disturbing incident in Grand Junction, Colorado, Patrick Thomas Egan, 39, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a journalist from KKCO and KJCT following a series of confrontational encounters. Egan faces charges including second-degree assault, bias-motivated crimes—both felonies—and harassment, a misdemeanor.

The ordeal began when Egan confronted the journalist while driving in Delta. He reportedly rolled down his window, questioning the victim’s citizenship and making inflammatory remarks about the current political climate, claiming, “This is Trump’s America now!” and expressing his status as a Marine dedicated to protecting the country.

Upon arriving, Egan persistently pursued the victim, demanding to see their identification. As the journalist attempted to escape into the building, Egan physically tackled and choked them. The attack was stopped when employees of KKCO and KJCT intervened.
