Lafayette Police Officer Involved in Collision While Responding to Emergency Call
LAFAYETTE, CO – A Lafayette police officer was involved in a vehicle collision while responding to an emergency incident on Saturday evening, resulting in minor injuries and subsequent charges against the officer. The crash occurred at approximately 6:31 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 287 and W. South Boulder Road.
According to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the officer, driving a Chevy Silverado with emergency lights and sirens activated, was en route to a rollover crash when the incident occurred. The officer’s vehicle collided with a Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on South Boulder Road, impacting the front of the police vehicle.
Following the event, the officer was taken to a local hospital for evaluation of minor injuries, while the driver of the Toyota reported minor injuries at the scene but declined an ambulance transport, as confirmed by CSP officials.
In light of the circumstances surrounding the collision, a CSP spokesperson announced on Sunday that the Lafayette officer has been charged with careless driving resulting in injury. Investigators have not yet determined if the officer may have run a red light at the time of the crash.
