Vietnam inaugurated its first subway system in Ho Chi Minh City, with a ceremony attended by 500 people and representatives from Japan. The 20-kilometer railway line was built with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Japanese companies. The project is expected to alleviate the city’s traffic congestion and air pollution, connecting the center of the city with its suburbs. The subway includes both elevated tracks and underground sections, making it the country’s first subway system.

The first train departed amidst cheers and many people took photos on the platform and inside the cars.
