As holiday travelers navigate through Denver International Airport (DIA), concerns over parking and security are top of mind. Michael Konopasek, spokesperson for DIA, emphasizes the importance of planning ahead during the busy travel season. “It’s not uncommon for there to be some adjustments made on parking,” he stated, advising travelers to check the airport’s website for real-time updates on parking availability.
Recent statistics on motor vehicle thefts at DIA have raised concerns among travelers. From January to November 2023, there were 716 theft reports, although this figure has improved significantly over recent months. In contrast, from January to November 2024, reports fell to 273—marking a 62% decrease. Konopasek credits this drop to enhanced safety measures and law enforcement efforts, including the recent indictments announced by Denver District Attorney Beth McCann against an auto theft ring operating at the airport.
McCann assured the public, “People who steal cars in Denver will be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.” Nevertheless, airport officials acknowledge that vigilance is key, asserting that “one theft is too many.” Travelers are urged to remain aware of their surroundings and exercise caution, similar to what they would do in any public space.
