Denver International Airport Experiences Extended Security Delays During Holiday Travel Period

Press Release

Denver International Airport Braces for Holiday Travel Surge

DENVER – Denver International Airport (DIA) experienced a bustling Sunday as travelers flocked to the facility for their holiday getaways. Despite long lines for check-in, bag drop, and security, some travelers found the experience to be better than anticipated. "This is better than I thought it would be," remarked local resident Tricia Morrell.

On Sunday morning, wait times at South Security fluctuated, ranging from 16 to 27 minutes. In an effort to gauge actual wait times, Denver7’s Allie Jennerjahn tracked a traveler through the security line, clocking a total wait of 17 minutes. However, many travelers expressed caution, expecting prolonged delays due to what they described as DIA’s notorious security wait times, which can stretch to 30-40 minutes during peak periods. "We always have to add more when we’re flying out of Denver," said traveler Brady Ruth.

Airport officials are urging passengers to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled departure to ensure a smoother travel experience. Travelers are reminded to plan ahead and pack their patience as they navigate the holiday rush.

Denver International Airport remains committed to meeting the demands of increased passenger volume during this busy season, as travelers make their way to various holiday destinations.

In addition to airport operations, Denver7 emphasizes its commitment to community support, showcasing efforts to stand up for residents and contribute positively to local initiatives.

For the latest updates on flight schedules and security wait times, passengers are encouraged to check DIA’s official website before heading to the airport.
