Ukraine launched a drone attack on the city of Kazan in Russia, located over 1000 kilometers from the front lines, damaging residential buildings and industrial sites. Despite the damage caused by the eight drones, no casualties were reported. Following the attack, flights were suspended at Kazan Airport and mass gatherings were cancelled. The Ukrainian government has not officially claimed responsibility for the attack, maintaining operational secrecy.
This attack comes after a Ukrainian strike on Russia’s Kursk region resulted in six deaths, including a child. Moscow retaliated by launching a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv, which resulted in one death and 13 injuries. Russian forces also launched 113 drones into Ukraine, with Ukrainian forces shooting down 57 and likely jamming another 56.
In response to Russia deploying North Korean troops, US President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use US-supplied missiles to target deeper within Russian territory. This decision was made to counter Russia’s aggressive actions in the ongoing conflict. Despite the escalating tensions, both countries have not ruled out the possibility of peace talks to resolve the conflict.
