Press Release: Suspect in Colorado Power Outage Escapes Unscathed, Police Seek Assistance
Commerce City, CO – A suspect responsible for a significant power outage earlier this month is fortunate to be alive after allegedly sabotaging local electrical infrastructure. The bizarre incident unfolded in the early morning hours of December 12, leading to an investigation by local authorities.
The outage prompted crews from United Power to inspect a transformer located at 10500 Havana Street, where they discovered alarming evidence. Investigators found indications that someone had used a hacksaw to sever an electrical wire, leading to dangerous sparks and explosions. Remarkably, the only remnants the police recovered were charred pieces of clothing and an abandoned bicycle.
Commerce City Police Chief reported, "With the amount of electricity the power company believes likely flowed through the individual who cut the wire, we initially feared we were searching for a body. However, our search yielded no remains."
Further examination revealed that the entire incident was caught on security cameras, highlighting two explosions before capturing the figure of a person fleeing the scene into darkness. However, the video quality was insufficient to provide a clear image for identification purposes.
Police are asking the public for assistance, particularly if anyone recognizes the abandoned bicycle or witnessed an individual walking in the area, likely with missing clothing. Residents are encouraged to provide any information that may lead to the suspect’s identification by contacting the police tip line at 303-289-3626.
As the investigation continues, authorities aim to ensure the safety of the community and prevent any future incidents. Stay informed on local news updates by subscribing to our daily newsletter.
