Denver Nonprofit Responds to Surge in Relocation Requests from Transgender Individuals Post-Election

Denver, CO — The Trans Continental Pipeline (TCP), a nonprofit dedicated to assisting transgender individuals seeking safety, has experienced an overwhelming influx of requests for relocation aid since President-elect Donald Trump’s re-election in November. The organization helps those who feel unsafe in their current states by facilitating moves to Colorado, where protections are more robust.

TCP offers logistical support and financial assistance for moving, including up to a month of free rent through its housing network in the Denver metro area. Founded eight months ago by Keira Richards, the nonprofit grew from a mutual aid network started among friends using the dating app Tinder. "We began seeing many newcomers asking for community connections," Richards explained, noting the alarming rise in demand for assistance.

In October, TCP received 22 requests for help, but after the election, that number skyrocketed to more than 400, with over 1,000 individuals currently on the waiting list. Richards shared that TCP serves clients from diverse backgrounds, including families with young children and individuals in their mid-70s. "We have people reaching out after experiencing hate crimes, as well as those who have been planning their relocations for some time," she said.

As the first nonprofit of its kind, TCP has successfully relocated 100 individuals to date, highlighting the critical need for such resources in the current climate. With a dedicated team of 12 volunteers, TCP continues to provide essential support, helping to create a safer and more inclusive environment for transgender individuals in Colorado.
