Aurora Police Seek Charges Against 11 Suspects in Violent Kidnapping Case

The Aurora Police Department has announced its intention to file charges against 11 suspects implicated in a harrowing kidnapping and assault incident that occurred earlier this week at an apartment complex in Aurora. Two victims were confronted by around a dozen armed suspects and forcibly taken to a vacant apartment where they were bound, tortured, and threatened.

Police Chief Todd Chamberlain commended the bravery of the victims for coming forward, which he stated significantly altered the course of the investigation. "The courage of our victims to come forward really changed the dynamics of how this incident unfolded," said Chamberlain. He highlighted that the suspects had allegedly been extorting local residents, demanding $500 payments bi-weekly.

A total of 19 individuals were detained during the initial investigation, with three released after questioning. The remaining 16 suspects are currently held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The charges against the suspects include second-degree kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and extortion, among others. Eight of the suspects are in ICE custody while three remain at large.

One notable suspect, Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta, already had an active felony warrant for previous crimes captured on security cameras at The Edge at Lowry apartment complex.

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman expressed frustration with Denver’s handling of migrant crises, insisting on transparency and cooperation between cities. A statement from the Denver Mayor’s office responded that they are committed to managing the situation compassionately and efficiently.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP. Tips can remain anonymous and may qualify for a reward of up to $2,000.
