Netflix to Release Documentary on NFL Legend John Elway
DENVER — Football icon John Elway, renowned for his remarkable NFL career with the Denver Broncos, is set to be the subject of a new Netflix documentary titled "Elway." The streaming giant announced the project on Thursday, which will chronicle Elway’s impressive journey both on and off the field.
Elway’s illustrious resume includes accolades such as first-team All-American at Stanford, being drafted by the New York Yankees, and securing three Super Bowl championships with the Broncos. He was also inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy in the sport. The documentary is a collaboration among Netflix, Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions, NFL Films, and Skydance Sports. Ken Rodgers, Skydance Sports’ executive producer, stated, “John Elway’s career isn’t just iconic; it’s darn near mythological. His physical abilities, mental toughness, and raw determination are the stuff of legend.”
Drafted first overall by the Baltimore Colts in the 1983 NFL Draft, Elway famously refused to play for the team, leading to a trade to the Denver Broncos. Over his 16-year career, he led the Broncos to five Super Bowl appearances, winning two titles and cementing his status as a quarterback legend.
Following his retirement, Elway co-owned the Colorado Crush arena football team until the league’s closure in 2008. He later joined the Broncos as general manager and executive vice president of football operations in 2011. Under his leadership, the team signed Peyton Manning, resulting in two more Super Bowl appearances and a victory in Super Bowl 50.
While a release date for the documentary has yet to be announced, fans eagerly await an in-depth look at the life of this sporting legend.
