Press Release: Winter Wonderland Returns to Colorado’s Ski Resorts

Georgetown, CO – December 19, 2024 – Colorado’s high country is experiencing a winter revival as soft powder snow blankets the ski areas, much to the delight of skiers and snowboarders. Loveland Ski Area kicked off the festive season with a fresh 5 inches of snow, making conditions perfect for winter sports enthusiasts. A drier and warmer weather pattern is anticipated over the weekend, providing a brief respite from the snowfall.

Looking ahead, meteorologists are forecasting fresh snow on Christmas Day, complementing an already snowy holiday season in the mountains. A potential storm approaching New Year’s Day is expected to further enhance ski conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts varying snow accumulations in the Colorado Rockies, with the northern mountains anticipating between 3 to 6 inches and areas in southern mountains expected to receive 2 to 5 inches from the upcoming storms.

As the Christmas weekend approaches, temperatures across ski resorts are expected to be slightly warmer, reaching the mid-30s. Tuesday, Christmas Eve, is projected to be cooler with sunshine dominating the day, before a significant influx of moisture brings snow on Christmas Day.

Snow forecasts suggest the possibility of 2-3 inches in northern mountains and 1-2 inches in central and southern ranges on Christmas. Following the holiday, a potent storm system is expected to bring substantial snow from December 26th to the end of the month, with accumulations potentially reaching 10-14 inches in the northern and central mountain regions.

With the recent powder and incoming snow systems, Colorado’s ski resorts are poised for an exciting holiday season, ensuring a perfect backdrop for winter sports and festivities.
