Parker Town Council to Appoint New Member Following Mayor’s Election
Parker, CO – The Town of Parker is set to fill a vacant council seat following the recent election of new Mayor Joshua Rivero. Rivero, who identifies as an independent, was sworn in on Monday after defeating former Mayor Jeff Toborg in the November elections. In his pursuit of nonpartisan governance, Rivero vacated his council seat to assume his mayoral duties, emphasizing the need for representation that encompasses the diverse opinions of Parker residents.
To address the vacancy, town officials announced that applications for the new councilmember will be accepted from eligible residents until December 23. The individual selected will complete the remainder of Rivero’s two-year term, which runs through 2026. Town officials have scheduled study sessions on December 27 and January 10 to evaluate applicants, with plans to formally appoint and swear in the new councilmember by January 13.
Should the Town Council formally appoint someone to the vacant seat, a special meeting will be convened on January 13, 2025, to finalize the appointment. Currently, Parker’s Town Council consists of six at-large councilmembers alongside the mayor. Until the new appointment is made, the town will continue to operate with its existing five-member council.
Residents interested in applying for the vacant council position are encouraged to visit the Town of Parker’s official website for more information on the application process. This move underscores Parker’s commitment to involving the community in governance and ensuring that all voices are heard in local decision-making.
