Colorado Deputy “Saves” Captain America

Douglas County Deputy Rescues “Captain America” on Colorado Highway

In an inspiring act of kindness, Deputy Zach Zepeski from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office came to the aid of local superhero Matt Gnojek, who was dressed as Captain America, when he encountered motorcycle trouble on C-470 last week. The incident occurred while Gnojek was en route to Children’s Hospital Colorado to meet young fans when his motorcycle unexpectedly stalled.

Zepeski, noticing the superhero in distress, felt compelled to intervene. “I couldn’t have Captain America stranded,” he said, highlighting the importance of community support. Upon realizing that Gnojek’s motorcycle insurance would not cover the cost of a tow, Zepeski generously stepped in to take care of the expense himself, providing an early Christmas gift to the grateful superhero.

In a heartwarming turn of events, Gnojek returned the favor by attending the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office’s annual “Shop With a Cop” event, where local families in need are assisted in selecting gifts for the holiday season. Gnojek expressed his gratitude, stating, "Because of [Zepeski], I’ve already been able to do three hospital visits."

Deputy Zepeski emphasized the importance of community and kindness, particularly during the stressful holiday season. "Checking on your friends and helping people out whenever they need it is the biggest part about Christmas," he remarked.

As the holiday spirit shines through this uplifting story, Gnojek reminds everyone to appreciate first responders. "If you see a police officer, firefighter, or deputy, let them know they are appreciated. Go ahead and give them the salute. From the Captain," he encouraged.

This heartwarming rescue not only highlighted community connection but also showcased the true spirit of giving during the holiday season.
