Community Rallies to Support Family After Aurora House Fire
AURORA, Colo. — In a festive neighborhood adorned with Christmas decorations, residents of Aurora came together following a devastating house fire on Saturday evening caused by a propane grill. Aurora Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to emergency calls around 8 p.m. reporting a two-story home engulfed in flames. Fortunately, a family of five, including a newborn, evacuated safely before firefighters arrived, and crews were able to rescue their dog, unharmed.
AFR deployed multiple engines and ladder trucks to combat the blaze, which spread from the first home to a nearby residence, forcing its occupants to evacuate as well. Both families are now displaced due to the extensive damage.
According to AFR Battalion Chief Brian Good, the fire stemmed from a cooking incident related to a grill, which ignited due to a buildup of grease in the trap. This tragic event underlines the importance of proper grill maintenance, as Good advises keeping grills at least 10 feet away from homes to prevent fire hazards.
Local residents, including Benis Sone, expressed their sympathy, highlighting the challenges of homeownership in the area and the heart-wrenching situation for the affected family. Amber Thomas, a new neighbor, shared how the community is uniting to support the displaced family through a GoFundMe campaign, emphasizing the warmth and generosity of the local residents.
As the holiday season approaches, community members are contributing essentials and financial aid to help the family rebuild their lives. Denver7 reached out to the family for comments, but they chose to decline an interview, focusing instead on their recovery.
