A 55-year-old fugitive named Eric Pree, who escaped from federal prison in North California nearly eight years ago, has been caught and indicted. Pree, from San Francisco, was serving a 101-month sentence for federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges when he fled from U.S. Penitentiary Atwater. Authorities did not reveal how Pree managed to escape. After being on the run for almost eight years, Pree was arrested in October in Walnut Creek, a suburb of San Francisco. At the time of his arrest, Pree was found with several cellphones, ID cards, debit and credit cards in various names, as well as multiple driver’s licenses and a fake Harvard University student ID. He now faces a new indictment for the alleged escape and could potentially receive a five-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine if convicted. Pree is currently in federal custody, where he will serve the remainder of his original sentence.
