Trump Nominates Father-in-Law Charles Kushner for U.S. Ambassador to France
In a recent announcement on Truth Social, President-elect Donald Trump expressed his intention to nominate Charles Kushner, a prominent real estate developer and the father of Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as the U.S. ambassador to France. Trump described Kushner as “a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker,” emphasizing his belief that Kushner would be a formidable advocate for American interests in the role.
Charles Kushner is the founder of Kushner Companies and has had a lengthy career in the real estate industry. He is notably recognized for his familial ties; his son, Jared Kushner, served as a senior advisor during Trump’s presidency and is married to Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka.
The nomination comes despite Charles Kushner’s tumultuous past. In 2005, he was convicted on multiple counts, including tax evasion and witness tampering, related to a revenge scheme against his brother-in-law who had cooperated with federal investigations. After serving two years in prison, Kushner was pardoned by Trump in December 2020.
Critically, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who prosecuted Kushner, has openly criticized him, calling his actions “one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes” he encountered during his tenure.
Trump’s proposal also emphasizes the importance of strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and France, a partnership Trump deems crucial as he looks to reinforce America’s alliances. The Kushner family has had a longstanding connection with Trump through their real estate ventures and personal relations, further intertwining their paths in the political landscape.
