Teenager allegedly leads authorities on high-speed chase in stolen vehicle for over 160 miles, according to Washington sheriff’s office

A 12-year-old boy from Issaquah, Washington stole his grandfather’s vehicle and drove over 160 miles over a mountain freeway towards Moses Lake. Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office were alerted and were able to find the boy in a residential area near the former Larson Air Force Base. The boy led deputies on a short pursuit before being stopped using a PIT maneuver near the Grant County airport.
The boy was booked at the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and felony eluding. The sheriff’s office expressed relief that they were able to stop the boy before he hurt himself or anyone else. The journey would have taken around two-and-a-half hours on Interstate 90, crossing Snoqualmie Pass at an elevation of 3,000 feet with near-freezing temperatures and snow accumulation. Traffic would have been more congested due to the day before Thanksgiving. The boy’s actions were considered extremely dangerous given his age and caused concern for the safety of himself and others on the road.
