Small Businesses Unite for Holiday Shopping Event in Denver
DENVER — As the holiday shopping season begins, local businesses on Tennyson Street in Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood are collaborating for the annual Small Business Passport event, aimed at energizing the community and promoting local shopping. Running from November 30 to December 1, this year’s event showcases 40 participants offering special discounts and a chance to win a gift basket valued at $1,600.
Nicole Wolsey-Neech, the event creator, emphasizes that the initiative goes beyond sales—it aims to strengthen the local economy through community engagement. "Shopping small and local isn’t just about purchases; it creates a domino effect that fuels our local economy," she stated. Shoppers can collect stamps from participating businesses, with each stamp providing an entry into the prize draw.
Jolly Goods, Wolsey-Neech’s own shop featuring handmade local products, is offering a $10 discount on purchases of $50 or more. "We encourage shoppers to explore multiple stores along the passport route," she added, noting the significance of local support this year, particularly as prices have risen across the board.
Katie Carrera, owner of the local plant shop Fern & Bloom, shared her appreciation for the event, emphasizing its role in drawing customers away from larger retail chains. "Having the community shop with us is essential, especially during the busy season," she noted.
As the Small Business Passport event approaches, it marks the beginning of a broader initiative encouraging residents to shop locally, coinciding with numerous holiday markets scheduled across the region throughout the season. Supporting local businesses not only helps sustain their operations but also fosters a vibrant community spirit.
