Detective Allan Reddins of the Oak Park Police Department in Illinois was killed in the line of duty while responding to a report of an armed suspect leaving a bank just outside of Chicago. Reddins was shot in the left side when he arrived at the scene, and despite being rushed to Loyola University Medical Center, he was tragically pronounced deceased shortly after. The suspect, who was also shot in the leg, was taken into custody and remains in stable condition.
Reddins, a 40-year-old Chicago resident, had only been with the Oak Park Police Department for two years before the incident. His death marks the first line of duty fatality for the department since 1938. In a statement, the department extended its deepest condolences to Reddins’ family, friends, and colleagues, as well as the wider law enforcement community who are grieving the loss caused by this senseless act of violence.
The incident began when police were called to the bank for a report of an armed suspect, and shots were fired upon their arrival. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting, including who shot the suspect, are still under investigation. The Oak Park Police Department is mourning the loss of Detective Reddins and working to process the tragedy that has struck their community.
