Local Businesses Turn Black Friday into a Giving Opportunity
LITTLETON, Colo. – In a heartwarming twist on the traditionally consumer-driven Black Friday, two local companies in Colorado are channeling their sales into providing meals for those in need.
Adventurist Backpack Company, co-owned by Kelly Belknap and Matilda Sandstroem, has established a unique business model since its inception in 2017. For every minimalist backpack sold, the company donates 25 meals to families across the U.S. in collaboration with Feeding America. To amplify their impact this Black Friday weekend, the duo plans to double their contribution. "For every bag sold, we’ll provide 50 meals instead," shared Sandstroem. Purchases made through their online store from November 29 to December 2 will support this initiative.
Similarly, Breckenridge Brewery in Littleton is leveraging its holiday sales for good. Marketing Coordinator Jody Peterson announced that during November and December, every pint or package of the brewery’s Christmas Ale sold will contribute a meal to the Food Bank of the Rockies. Over the last four years, this campaign has enabled them to donate over a thousand meals.
Joanna Wise, a representative from the Food Bank of the Rockies, stated that this time of year is particularly demanding, noting, "We see an increase in food distribution around the holidays." Monetary donations have a significant impact, as every dollar translates to three meals for those facing hunger.
