Avalanche acquire Wedgewood from Predators in exchange for Annunen in backup goaltender trade

The Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators have completed a trade involving backup goaltenders. Justus Annunen is heading to Nashville along with a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NHL draft, while Scott Wedgewood is joining the Avalanche.

Annunen, a 24-year-old third-round pick by Colorado in 2018, will serve as Juuse Saros’ backup in Nashville. He has a 6-4 record with a 3.23 goals-against average. On the other hand, Wedgewood, a 32-year-old goaltender, is expected to compete with Alexandar Georgiev for playing time in Colorado. Wedgewood appeared in five games for the Predators this season, posting a 1-2-1 record with a 3.69 goals-against average.

Both teams hope that this trade will provide valuable depth in the goaltender position and contribute to their success on the ice. The addition of Annunen and the draft pick could strengthen Nashville’s goaltending depth, while Wedgewood’s experience and competitiveness could prove to be an asset for the Avalanche.

It will be interesting to see how these backup goaltenders will perform in their new teams and how they will contribute to their respective organizations as they continue their pursuit of success in the NHL.
