Aurora and Arapahoe County Celebrate the Holidays with Exciting Events Ahead

Aurora Kicks Off Holiday Season with Festive Events

As the Thanksgiving festivities conclude, the city of Aurora is set to usher in the holiday season with a vibrant tree lighting ceremony and a range of festive activities. The celebration will commence on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Great Lawn of the Aurora Municipal Center, located at 15151 E. Alameda Parkway. Attendees can look forward to the illumination of thousands of lights, along with dance and carol performances, sweet treats, and special appearances from characters Elsa and Anna from Disney’s "Frozen" and Santa Claus.

In addition to the tree lighting, the Merry Makers Market will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Aurora Central Library, 14949 E. Alameda Parkway, showcasing an array of products from local small businesses, perfect for holiday gift shopping. The Aurora History Museum will also host its annual Festival of Wreaths from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring beautifully crafted wreaths from community members and local organizations.

Looking ahead, the city will host "Visit the Village" on Saturday, December 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds. This holiday-themed shopping event, similar to the Merry Makers Market, will include a 5K run called "Yeti Set Go!" starting at 9:30 a.m., with registration available for $15. General admission to Visit the Village costs $10, while children under two enter for free. Attendees can gain free entry by donating a new, unwrapped gift to the Partnering for the Holidays program.

The event will feature photo opportunities with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides, a petting zoo, bounce houses, craft activities, food trucks, a hot chocolate bar, and a matching pajama contest. For more information and ticket purchases, visit the county’s website.

Aurora’s festive events promise to create lasting memories for families and friends this holiday season.
