Lone Tree Officer’s Quick Thinking Leads to Suspect Capture on Children’s Bike
LONE TREE, CO – In an extraordinary display of determination, Officer Jacob Tarr of the Lone Tree Police Department successfully apprehended a suspect using a children’s bicycle, demonstrating that quick thinking can be just as effective as high-speed pursuits. The incident unfolded last Saturday at approximately 4:30 p.m. when Officer Tarr attempted to detain a man alleged to have committed felony theft earlier that day.
As the suspect fled on foot, he jumped several fences before commandeering a nearby motorized scooter. Security cameras captured the suspect speeding away down a neighborhood street. Officer Tarr, undeterred by the suspect’s head start, quickly commandeered a child’s green bicycle from the area. He raced through the neighborhood, soliciting information from residents about the suspect’s path.
His efforts paid off when he located the suspect, who had been stopped by another officer in a police vehicle. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of theft and was found to have three outstanding warrants, including one for armed robbery in Adams County.
The Lone Tree Police Department praised Officer Tarr’s resourcefulness in the face of adversity. “When you’re a police officer on a mission to protect your citizens, nothing is going to stand in your way, even if your squad car is not near and your suspect is speeding away on a scooter," the city stated in a press release.
The suspect has since been booked into the Douglas County Justice Center, reflecting the department’s commitment to community safety and innovative policing strategies. This incident serves as a reminder that determination, creativity, and an unwavering spirit can succeed against all odds.
