Amber Alert Incident in Colorado: 7-Year-Old Found Safe, Suspect Arrested
A Colorado family breathed a sigh of relief after their 7-year-old child was located safe following a harrowing incident involving an Amber Alert. The suspect, Crystal Denmon, 26, has been arrested and is facing a slew of serious charges including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and more.
Denmon is accused of shooting a man early Monday morning at an apartment located on Kendall Street in Lakewood. Following the shooting, she allegedly kidnapped the man’s child, prompting law enforcement to issue an Amber Alert due to Denmon being considered "armed and dangerous." The situation escalated when Denmon was subsequently spotted in Cheraw, a small town approximately 190 miles southeast of Denver.
Authorities apprehended her in the afternoon after being alerted to her whereabouts, and within an hour, the child was safely recovered at approximately 4 p.m. The victim of the shooting was taken to the hospital and is receiving medical care, while the police investigation led them to realize both the suspect and the child were missing shortly after the shooting occurred.
Crystal Denmon remains in custody on a cash-only bond set at $500,000. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office now has until December 4 to file formal charges against her. Notably, Denmon is not related to the child she kidnapped.
This incident has raised community concerns about safety, highlighting the alarming issue of violence and child endangerment. Family members expressed their immense relief at the safe return of the child amidst a challenging situation.
The ongoing investigation aims to uncover more details surrounding the incident as the legal proceedings begin.
