Matildas in Action: Australia Takes on Brazil in International Women’s Football Friendly – Live Coverage

Former Socceroo Craig Foster was inducted into the Football Australia Hall of Fame, where he called on the football community to support refugees and minority groups. Other inductees included Jenny Bray, Ian Holmes, and the late Alex Pongrass.

At half-time, the Matildas were trailing Brazil 1-2, with Brazilian striker Amanda Gutierres scoring two early goals. Caitlin Foord managed to pull one back for Australia just before the break. The game was marked by intense battles on the field, especially between players such as Hayley Raso and Vitoria Calhau.

In the second half, Australia continued to push forward, with Ellie Carpenter creating chances and Caitlin Foord looking dangerous. Despite the physical nature of the game, the Matildas were determined to level the score.

Clare Polkinghorne, playing in her 168th and final match for Australia, received a tribute before the game from former Brisbane Broncos star Darren Lockyer and swimmer Susie O’Neill. Polkinghorne’s retirement marked the end of an illustrious career with the national team.

The clash between the Matildas and Brazil highlighted the friendly rivalry between the two teams, dating back to the Women’s World Cup in 2007. While Brazil took the early lead in the match, Australia showed resilience and fought hard to stay in the game.

Overall, the game was a fitting farewell for Clare Polkinghorne, as she bid farewell to her international career in front of her home fans. The Matildas showed determination and spirit, despite ultimately falling short against a strong Brazil team.
