Lin Yu-ting, Taiwan’s Olympic boxing gold medallist, has withdrawn from an international competition in the UK after organisers questioned her gender eligibility. The competition, organised by World Boxing, did not have clear regulatory policies in place like the International Olympic Committee. Lin’s eligibility was questioned despite her meeting all criteria and winning a gold medal in Paris. She offered to undergo a local medical examination in the UK but World Boxing did not agree. To prevent further harm, Lin and Taiwanese officials decided to withdraw from the event. The gender row involving Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif at the Paris Olympics led to both being cleared by the IOC to compete. Despite being labelled as men by the Russian-led International Boxing Association president, they were defended by the IOC and identified as women with passports to prove it. Lin, who won gold in Paris, received support from President William Lai Ching-te and Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai, who vowed to protect her rights in future competitions.
