James Hart, also known as “Red,” has once again made headlines by breaking a world record in bench press. Competing in the 80+ age division at the Raw Powerlifting Federation 2024 World Championships in Virginia Beach, Hart emerged victorious and set a new record in the 148–164-pound weight class by bench pressing 215 pounds. This impressive feat surpassed the previous record of 198 pounds set by Joe Stockinger in 2014. Hart credits his success to his training at the Eastern Shore Family YMCA in Onley, where he has been tirelessly preparing for competitions.
This isn’t the first time Hart has set a world record. In 2015, he achieved a record in the 70–75 age division in Virginia Beach, surpassing the previous record by 25 pounds. Although that record was later broken, Hart’s determination and passion for powerlifting have not wavered. He noted that athletes from 18 different countries, including Ukraine, participated in the recent event, showcasing the global appeal of the sport.
Looking to the future, Hart remains committed to his training and plans to continue competing for as long as possible. With a track record of success and a drive to push the boundaries of what is possible, James “Red” Hart has shown that age is just a number when it comes to achieving greatness in powerlifting.
