Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill had his traffic citations dismissed after the charging officers failed to attend a court hearing. The tickets for careless driving and not wearing a seat belt were issued to Hill after a September altercation with police outside Hard Rock Stadium. The stop escalated into an incident where Hill was pulled from his car, forced to the ground, and handcuffed by officers. The Miami-Dade Police stated that the officers’ failure to appear was an oversight and the matter will be handled administratively, but defended issuing Hill the tickets.
Body camera footage from the stop showed Hill being pulled over for allegedly speeding past two motorcycle officers. The exchange between Hill and the officers escalated, leading to the physical force used against him. Hill did not resist the officers physically, but did express frustration and asked them not to tell him what to do.
After about 30 minutes, Hill was issued citations and allowed to enter the stadium for the game. One officer was placed on administrative duty and an internal affairs investigation was launched, with no results released yet. Despite the dismissal of the tickets, the Miami-Dade Police maintained that the citations had merit. Hill later took to social media to express his thoughts on the incident, questioning the actions of the officers involved.
