Denver Community Unites to Support Local Charity Efforts This Thanksgiving
DENVER — In a heartwarming display of community spirit, viewers of Denver7 Gives rallied together to support 8-year-old Olive Diaz, a dedicated third grader from Denver on a mission to help those without homes this Thanksgiving. Over the past five years, Olive has been raising funds to purchase turkeys for the Denver Rescue Mission, driven by her desire to assist individuals facing food insecurity. "I saw people don’t have any food and I thought I should do this because I really love doing that," Olive shared.
In response to a recent Denver7 feature highlighting Olive’s efforts, generous donations from viewers totaled $2,000, significantly bolstering her fundraising campaign. This support enabled Olive, along with her family, including her younger sister Violet, to visit a local Safeway store, where they purchased approximately 50 turkeys along with essential holiday fixings to donate to the shelter. Additional support came from Safeway, contributing around $200 worth of food to assist in their cause.
Reflecting on the meaningful experience, Olive expressed pride in being able to share this moment with her sister, adding, "She’s feeling good, she looked excited and happy…because she wanted to help a lot." The donated items were delivered to the Denver Rescue Mission’s food drive in downtown Denver on Monday evening, with Olive stating, "I’m feeling really proud of myself and really happy. Thank you guys so much."
Denver7 continues to spotlight local individuals who need assistance, encouraging community involvement through the Denver7 Gives initiative. Contributions to the fund are directly allocated to help those in need within the community.
