Capitol M’s Thanksgiving Special: Week of November 29, 2024 with a Government Twist

Former chief assignable clerk at the Colorado State House, Pat Worley, has found a unique way to preserve campaign t-shirts from political races in the state. Worley, known for her sewing skills, has been turning campaign t-shirts into quilts and pillows. The idea started when former journalist Lynn Bartels gave her several boxes of shirts, initially collected by her.

Worley’s quilts include t-shirts from Coloradans running for various political positions, from Congress to Denver mayor. She has also incorporated the Colorado state tartan into her projects, creating ties and scarves for lawmakers. Over the years, Worley has become known for her sense of humor and pranks, earning her the nickname “Evil Pat.”

Currently, Worley is working on her second quilt project, featuring state lawmakers she has worked with during her time at the Capitol. She is aiming to create a reversible quilt with about 30 more t-shirts needed to complete the project. Worley has also transferred items like bumper stickers onto fabric when t-shirts are not available for the quilts.

Former lawmaker Mark Waller is set to receive the second quilt once it is finished. Those interested in contributing campaign t-shirts or bumper stickers to Worley’s projects can contact her directly. Worley’s unique creations highlight a lighter side of the state Capitol and provide a creative way to preserve political memorabilia.
