Encapsulating JonBenét Ramsey’s Cold Case in a New Light
Boulder, CO – Nearly 28 years after the tragic murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey on December 26, 1996, interest in the unsolved case has intensified, especially following the recent Netflix documentary, "Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey?" In response to renewed public attention, the Boulder Police Department (BPD) presented an early annual update on the investigation, reinforcing their commitment to finding her killer.
Chief Stephen Redfearn acknowledged past investigative missteps, underscoring that the BPD is dedicated to pursuing justice for JonBenét, asserting, “Our goal is to find JonBenét Ramsey’s killer… Our commitment to that has never wavered.” As part of the ongoing investigation, Boulder PD has collaborated with the Colorado Cold Case Review Team, aiming to digitize over 40,000 pages of documentation and 2,500 pieces of evidence collected throughout the years.
Despite assertions to the contrary, Redfearn emphasized that all viable leads, including DNA testing, are actively pursued, stating, “We have thoroughly investigated multiple suspects throughout the years.” Michael Tracey, a prominent figure in the case’s media narrative, criticized the initial police response and offered insight into the complexities of the investigation surrounding the Ramsey family.
The Boulder District Attorney’s office reiterated its commitment to examining the case with fresh eyes, employing the latest forensic advancements, and fostering cooperation with various agencies. As the investigation continues, anyone with information regarding JonBenét’s murder is urged to contact the Boulder PD.
With the case still open, the search for answers remains a priority for law enforcement and the community alike.
