The Kremlin has dismissed claims that Ukraine could be armed with nuclear weapons as “absolutely irresponsible”, following reports that unidentified Western officials suggested US President Joe Biden could provide such weapons. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that such discussions could have serious implications and urged the West to listen to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Senior Russian security official Dmitry Medvedev stated that if Ukraine were armed with nuclear weapons, it could be seen as an attack on Russia, potentially triggering a nuclear response.
In other developments, Russian forces have captured the village of Kopanky in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region and downed three Ukrainian drones near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Amid ongoing clashes along the front line, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that half of the recent clashes occurred near Pokrovsk and Kurakhove in the Donetsk region.
In response to the conflict, Norway has agreed to raise its planned support for Ukraine to $2.7 billion in 2025, up from $27 billion this year. Additionally, a Russian court has ordered the arrest of a French TV reporter for allegedly crossing into the Kursk region with the Ukrainian military. Overall, the situation in Ukraine continues to escalate, with Russian forces advancing at the fastest monthly pace since the start of the war, capturing significant territory in recent weeks.
