Aurora’s Affordable Housing Complex Promises New Hope through Career Training
AURORA, CO – Construction is underway on a new affordable housing complex across from the Anschutz Medical Campus, promising to transform the lives of many residents in Aurora. Jason Janz, CEO of the nonprofit CrossPurpose, envisions a nurturing space where residents can access not only housing but also free career training classes.
Set to open in April 2024, the multifaceted facility will incorporate living units, a community center, and a church, all designed to uplift the human spirit. Janz highlighted plans for common spaces offering free family dinners and local art, aiming to foster a sense of belonging and dignity among residents.
The initiative is a collaborative effort involving CrossPurpose, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Aurora NAACP, and Cherry Creek School District. Janz expressed hope that the program will assist residents in moving from affordable housing to home ownership within a six-month training period.
CrossPurpose, founded in 2012 to combat generational poverty in Denver, has successfully graduated over 1,100 adults through its career training program, which offers a remarkable average wage increase of 500% upon completion. The new facility will serve more than 200 individuals annually, with a projected 600 graduates within its first five years.
Jason Janz noted the facility’s unique approach to education—prioritizing not only technical skills but also soft skills, with a therapeutic environment to help heal personal struggles. As part of the initiative, graduates will receive support for down payments on homes and educational expenses for their children.
With applications opening on January 10, and classes set to begin in 2026, this transformative housing complex is poised to be a beacon of hope for many families seeking a brighter future in Aurora.
