Australia had a tough day during the first Test match against India, with their top order collapsing and losing quick wickets to Jasprit Bumrah’s outstanding bowling spell. Bumrah took three quick wickets, including Steve Smith for a golden duck, leaving Australia in a tough spot at 19-2.
Despite dismissing India for 150 runs earlier in the day, Australia struggled to make an impact with the bat, with key players failing to make an impact. Nathan Lyon’s spell of 5-1-23-0 seemed insignificant at the time, but it now feels like a missed opportunity.
With the pitch not posing any danger, the ball zipped through, causing significant movement and leading to a total of 17 wickets falling on the first day. Fans were left in awe of Bumrah’s performance and his spell was described as one of the greatest by a fast bowler.
Debutant Harshit Rana also impressed with his bowling, adding pressure on the Australian batsmen. Travis Head tried to counter-attack with some aggressive shots, but the day belonged to Bumrah who dominated the Australian top order.
Australia closed the day at 67-7, still trailing India by 83 runs. As they head into the second day of the Test match, they will need to regroup and put up a better fight against the Indian bowlers to get back into the game.
