Former Kindergarten Teacher Honored for Shooting Down Russian Missile
Natalia Grabarchuk, a former kindergarten teacher turned Ukrainian soldier, has been recognized by Ukrainian defense minister Rustem Umerov for her role in shooting down a Russian missile during her first combat launch. Grabarchuk, who completed a five-month training course before the mission, successfully launched an “Igla” anti-missile device to intercept a Russian cruise missile aimed at a critical infrastructure facility in Ukraine’s Rivne region.
Video footage of the mission, shared by the Ukrainian Air Forces, shows Grabarchuk operating the anti-aircraft missile and hitting the target, followed by her colleagues congratulating her on the accomplishment. In a post on Facebook, Umerov praised Grabarchuk and her colleagues as “incredible defenders” and commended their professionalism and courage.
Grabarchuk expressed her joy at hitting the Russian missile, stating that she remained focused on the mission and let her emotions out afterwards.
