Hunter’s body reported missing on Halloween discovered in Colorado

The body of a missing hunter, Lance Walker, from Baton Rouge, La., has been recovered on Nov. 1 at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in southern Colorado. Walker had gone hunting with a group on Oct. 30, and when he did not return to the campsite on Oct. 31, an SOS feature on a Garmin satellite device was activated to alert authorities. Walker’s brother, who was part of the hunting party, later found his body in rugged terrain.

Alamosa Volunteer Search and Rescue, along with other search and rescue teams, assisted in the recovery of Walker’s body. Due to weather conditions, helicopter crews were unable to further assist until the following day. Over 20 team members from different search and rescue organizations responded to the incident.

The cause of Walker’s death is currently unknown. The Unified Command involved in the recovery expressed their deepest condolences to Walker’s family and thanked all the responding teams for their help. The National Park Service was also involved in the recovery efforts.

As of Nov. 15, the cause of Walker’s death remains under investigation. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures while engaging in outdoor activities. Walker’s family and loved ones are supported during this difficult time.
