Press Release: Charges Filed Against Driver in Fatal Crash Involving Golden Officer
Golden, Colorado – A Colorado man has been formally charged in connection with a tragic accident that resulted in the death of Golden police officer Evan Dunn. The accused, 43-year-old Stephen Geer, a professor at the Colorado School of Mines, appeared in Jefferson County Court on Thursday facing serious charges, including felony vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, as well as misdemeanor counts of assault and driving under the influence.
The incident occurred on November 7 while Officer Dunn, along with his partner, was investigating a separate crash on the Golden Parkway. According to arrest documents, Geer failed to notice the police vehicle’s flashing lights, leading him to crash into a parked vehicle in the median. This vehicle subsequently struck Officer Dunn, who suffered fatal injuries. Two other individuals at the scene sustained injuries as well.
In remembrance of Officer Dunn’s sacrifice and service, flags were flown at half-staff on Wednesday, and a somber procession was organized, with numerous law enforcement personnel and Denver locals paying their respects during his memorial service.
The community has come together to honor Dunn, reflecting on his dedication and commitment to public safety. As the case progresses, the legal system will address the charges against Geer, highlighting the serious implications of impaired and inattentive driving.
Further court appearances are expected as the investigation continues. Officer Dunn’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those he served and protected.
