The Colorado Avalanche appear to have found their new No. 1 goalie in Justus Annunen. Annunen will make his third straight start on Thursday night for the team, following two impressive victories against the San Jose Sharks and Seattle Kraken. Annunen has a record of 2-1, with a save percentage of .900 and is allowing only 2.45 goals per game, in contrast to Alexandar Georgiev’s struggling start to the season.
Georgiev has a 1-3 record with a weak save percentage of .810, giving up an average of 4.99 goals per game. Now on a three-game winning streak after a rough 0-4 start, the Avalanche seem to be benefiting from Annunen’s strong goaltending. With a win against the Utah Hockey Club, Colorado could be back to .500 on the season.
Head coach Jared Bednar is likely to continue starting Annunen as long as he remains hot in the net, while Georgiev watches from the bench. Fans are hopeful that Annunen’s stellar performance will continue to help the Avalanche climb up the standings.
