The Denver City Council has voted to approve a plan to rezone the area around Ball Arena for a new development proposal, marking a significant change to downtown Denver. The collaboration between Kroenke Sports and Entertainment and community groups aims to create a more vibrant and inclusive downtown by redeveloping 70 acres of property around the arena. The proposed project includes a residential neighborhood, parks, paths, retail space, and approximately 6,000 housing units, with 1,000 of those designated as affordable housing units.
During a public hearing before the vote, supporters expressed their excitement for the project, citing the need for more housing in Denver. However, some residents voiced concerns about the proposed development’s connectivity with the rest of downtown, specifically with Auraria Parkway. Despite these concerns, the project is set to move forward, with construction potentially beginning before 2026.
This significant development will not only transform the area around Ball Arena but also address important issues such as housing affordability and homelessness in the city. By expanding the downtown area and creating more residential options, the project aims to make Denver a better and more inclusive city for all its residents.
