An Auraria Campus police officer was injured in a shooting on campus early Monday morning, leading to the closure of the campus for a criminal investigation. According to reports, the incident began when two police officers approached a suspect who had broken into a car. The suspect resisted arrest and ultimately shot at the officers, hitting one in the arm. Despite trying to run away, the suspect was eventually apprehended by Auraria Campus and Denver police.
The RTD light rail station at Colfax and Auraria was also closed following the incident. Those needing to access the campus were advised to use the north and east entrances on Auraria Parkway and Speer Boulevard. The Denver Police Department is leading the criminal investigation in coordination with Auraria Campus authorities.
