A police officer was shot in the arm at the Auraria Campus in Denver early Monday morning. The officer, who was not identified, was treated at a nearby hospital and later released. The incident occurred after a suspect assaulted two officers, trespassed into a vehicle, and fled. The officers located the suspect again and attempted to arrest him, using a taser, but the suspect fired multiple shots and fled on foot. The suspect was later apprehended by campus and Denver Police Department officers.
The Auraria Campus entrance at 9th Street and Colfax Avenue was initially closed, as well as the RTD light rail station at Colfax and Auraria. Both have since reopened. Campus operations are expected to resume as normal. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available.
