Four perished in Houston as helicopter collides with radio tower

A tragic helicopter crash in Houston resulted in the deaths of four people, including a child, after the aircraft collided with a radio tower. The crash occurred at 7:54 p.m. local time, and all four individuals aboard the helicopter were killed. The aircraft had taken off from Ellington Airport and crashed around 17 miles northwest of its planned destination. Multiple agencies, including the FAA, NTSB, and local law enforcement and fire departments, are investigating the incident. Houston Fire Department Chief Thomas Muñoz confirmed that no other structures or homes were damaged in the crash, and the resulting fire was extinguished. Chief J. Noe Diaz asked the public not to touch any debris from the crash and to notify authorities if any pieces are found. Mayor John Whitmire described the crash as causing a large explosion and a “fireball out of the air.” The radio tower’s lights had been reported as inoperable days before the incident. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge. Residents in the area are safe, but the helicopter and tower were destroyed in the collision.
