A Denver woman, Tiffany Vo, has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for fraudulently charging her employer, Amazon, nearly half a million dollars for in-person meetings that actually took place virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. Vo used the money to purchase luxury items, vehicles, exercise equipment, beauty products, and make payments towards a condo. She must repay the stolen funds and will be on supervised probation for three years after her release. Vo worked for Amazon as a program manager and was responsible for administering two programs that transitioned to virtual events in March 2020 due to the pandemic. Despite this, Vo continued to submit false invoices and charge expenses for in-person gatherings that never occurred. The FBI uncovered Vo’s embezzlement scheme, and she now faces the consequences of her actions. Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek stated that Vo’s actions were a betrayal of her employer, as she lived extravagantly at their expense. This case serves as a cautionary tale of the consequences of employee fraud and the importance of diligence in monitoring expenses, especially in remote work settings.
