Residents in east Oakland were ordered to evacuate after a brush fire broke out and burned two homes on Friday afternoon. More than 80 firefighters and personnel from local fire agencies were fighting the fire, which spread over 13 acres and burned less than 10 structures in an Oakland Hills neighborhood near Interstate 580. Homes on several streets were threatened but not damaged by the flames. Evacuation orders were issued for multiple zones, including Ridgemont/Caballo Hills, Caballo Hills, Sequoyah, and Sequoyah. A temporary evacuation point was set up at Burckhalter Elementary School. Rep. Barbara Lee urged residents to follow evacuation orders and stay safe. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Updates on the situation were available as it was a developing story.
