Denver is in for a return to more typical October weather as a winter-like storm moves in this weekend. Before the storm hits, Thursday will be warmer than normal with highs in the mid- to upper-70s, increasing cloud cover, and windy conditions leading to higher fire danger, particularly over the Eastern Plains. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for parts of the northeastern plains due to gusts up to 40 mph and low humidity values.
Starting Friday, the storm will bring snow to the mountains and rain to the Denver metro area. The San Juans could see 1 to 2 feet of snow above 9,000 feet, while the Front Range mountains may receive up to 6 inches. Temperatures will drop significantly, with highs in the upper-40s to low-50s on Saturday, when a light rain/snow mix is possible along the Palmer Divide.
Denver will also finally see some much-needed rain on Friday, the first chance of showers since September 22. The Front Range has been dry, and the water from this storm is desperately needed. The storm is expected to move out of the area by Sunday, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-60s. Warmer and drier weather is forecasted to return early next week. Be prepared for a dramatic shift in weather conditions this weekend in Colorado.
